Kannan Mama

Ramesh with Kannan mama and others

To me Kannan mama evokes images of his passion for Tamil, tamil dramas and reading books His sincerity to work is another image that comes to my mind when I think of mama. He was not a great conversationalist, but whenever he talked he had great skills in cracking jokes, anecdotes, phrases while he narrated any incident to us sitting in the Ashok nagar dining table. I remember the P&T complex mama occupied by the back of my hand (I'm sure this is the case with all my cousins - Sriram, Deepu, Madhu..). We used to play in the Police Training College grounds most of the day; watch movies in Udhayam theatres which had just been opened and play games all the time. We did not have enough time those days in our vacations, honestly.

While in Mumbai, I had the opportunity to stay in mama's palatial apartment near VT. I never realized how big that house was till the time when I worked in Mumbai for several months during 2003-04. He gifted me a pair of skating shoes while I was with them. I learnt roller skates in that house (the hall was as big as a skating rink) along with Mukund and Jagan. He used to take us out during weekends to Siddhi Vinayakar temple, beaches, marine drive, etc. Lovely days that I can still remember. Mama had always been a caring, affectionate and dignified person. Goodbye, mama.
