TRIBUTES TO VANAJA ATHAI

" When I saw chittappa's mail about a newsletter issue in Athai's memory, I thought if I was qualified to write, I was a little hesitant.......thinking about it a few more time I realise that I have had such lovely experiences with Athai that is worth sharing with everyone..

We all love our immediate family and friends..but Vanaja Athai is one person I have seen having unconditional love towards everyone be it family, friend or a complete stranger... and today when Athai is no longer with us, I wonder if at all I can be like her !!

She always had this special characteristic to create a lovely atmosphere around her, full of fun and joy not letting anyone know the hardships she has faced in life earlier .. She is such an inspiration and a great human being...... I always fondly remeber her jokes.. one that keeps coming to my mind is her attempt at Hindi when she had moved to Delhi for the first time.... when a neighbour's kid had fallen down.. she told the kid's mother.. "Baccha Mar gaya" instead of "Bacha Gir gaya" and how she was subjected to the wrath of the neighbour. I loved this character of here where she could laugh at her own self.. not many of us can do that.

I was fortunate to have Athai stay with our family in Bangalore for 2 days.... I remember her stay with us very fondly... as usual she had abundantly blessed Akhil and she had such kind words even for my mother.. someone whom she hardly knew... this shows her unconditional love

Athai had written a lovely letter to me after her trip to Bangalore and I have preserved that letter safely.. I feel good that Usha and I wrote to her a few months ago and that had really made her happy !! I must write here that after my son Akhil read the letters Usha and me had written to Athai.. he commented how beautiful Usha's handwriting was by saying that " Usha Athai... till now your Athai only has problems with her leg.. but after reading your letter she will go blind.. your writing is so hard to decipher"

I have not seen Mohan expressing his feelings towards anyone/anything... he has a special felling towards her....he was always curious to know what was Athai's latest dream about him and I always relate it how we are eagert to know about latest movie release.... She had predicted that he will pass his CA exam as she dreamt about it and to this day Mohan keeps remebering that very fondly........ I feel sad that Athai is not with us anymore to dream .....

Although Athai is not with us today she has left behind her trails in the form of Urmila and Radha who I am sure will fill in Athai's absence for all of us. I am sure that Athai is blessing all of us from wherever she is...........I pray to God for Urmila and Radha to overcome their grief and shower His abundand blessings on them.

Geetha Mohan, nephew's wife
