It is called Sapthamrutha Kshetram, as all important cahracteristics for a temple like Vimanam, Mandapam, Forest (Aranyam), Sarasoo, Kshetra, River and Town are found at this place. A night's stay here is believed to confer Moksha. The idols of Vaikuntanathan and Vishnu on the Garuda are very beautiful. In the Thayar Sannidhi an age-old beehive exists and a pooja for the same takes place. (Thenkoodu Pooja). This place is also called "LakshmiVanam" as Lakshmi performed Tapas. Lord Shiva is guarding this temple on all four sides taking four different forms.
This is the avatharasthala of Tirukannamangaiandaan, a disciple of Nadamuni.
