Dear Reader,
Your family Newsletter is back with a mix of new and old. The section 'Fresh writings' contains contributions received for this Newsletter. Santhanam has written the second as well as the third and concluding part of his interesting article on 'My experience with three Governors'. Usha has written on her 'American Sojourn.' I have written on my 38 years in the Railways titled 'Gentlemen Prefer Trains'. Almost every relative conveyed his/her appreciation of the October 2021 Newsletter. But only three - Usha, Mukund and Deepti put it in writing and these are in this section.
How did the first Newsletter look? No one knows as it has vanished into the Net. I started the Newsletter in January 2000. It was hosted in the free geocities hosting site which was acquired by Yahoo and became defunct later. Strangely I did not have the first few issues in my computer. Somehow the Newsletter folder was not copied when I handed over my laptop in Central Railway, Mumbai. I started systematically saving the Newsletters only from May 2003. But it was too late. Only recently when I was googling, I read that geocities had archived every bit of data before closing down. After some search, I got back the Newsletters from December 2000. So I have numbered December 2000 issue as No. 1 and have reproduced it in this issue. Apart from this, this issue carries four articles from the archives
- Aarthi's article Social Reformer - Age 16 from the issue dated January 2002
- Prasad's article Wistful for a Vespa from the issue dated February 2002
- Mukund's article A Home in the Tropics from the issue dated February 2003
- Radha's write-up Radhika's Arangetram from the issue dated December 2007
Do enjoy this Newsletter. And please send your feedback by email.
Bye till May / June 2022.
